Access to affordable primary healthcare remains a challenge for many communities across the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Lower Hunter regions where bulk billing rates have remained below the national average. As part of the Australian Government's Medicare Bulk Billing Initiative, DXC Medical Recruitment is looking to engage with General Practitioners (GPs) interested in future opportunities across six new Bulk Billing Clinics within the Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network region.

To help address this, the Australian Government has committed $25.3 million over three years to establish six new fully bulk billing GP clinics. Expected to open by mid-2027, these clinics aim to attract approximately 60 additional GPs to the region and deliver around 155,000 bulk billed GP services each year, strengthening the local GP workforce and helping more patients access essential healthcare without out-of-pocket costs.

With opportunities available in Distribution Priority Areas (DPA), it presents an exciting opportunity for GPs, including:

  • VR GPs looking to relocate
  • GP registrars approaching Fellowship
  • International GPs eligible for the Expedited Specialist Pathway (ESP) or assessed as Substantially Comparable and eligible for the RACGP Practice Experience Program Specialist Stream (PEP SP)
  • Non-VR GPs holding General Registration eligible for the Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP)

Clinic operators will be announced late 2026, further details about clinic locations, remuneration packages and incentives will follow.

Don't miss out! Register your interest today and be among the first to hear about these exciting new opportunities.

By registering your interest early, you'll have the opportunity to connect with DXC Medical Recruitment, discuss your career goals and preferred locations, and stay informed as further details about the six new clinics become available.

Whether you're a VR GP considering relocating to the region, a GP registrar approaching Fellowship, an international GP eligible for the Expedited Specialist Pathway (ESP) or Substantially Comparable RACGP PEP Specialist Stream (PEP SP), or a non-VR GP holding General Registration and eligible for the Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP), we'd love to hear from you.

Is there patient demand? YES!

More than one million people live across these regions. The Central Coast alone projected to grow by 60,000 residents by 2041, demand for accessible primary healthcare will increase.

In Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, the GP bulk billing rate is 66.6%, compared to the national average of 81.4%, highlighting a significant gap in access to bulk billed services.

The six new Bulk Billing Clinics aim to help address this unmet need, delivering approximately 155,000 additional bulk billed GP services each year.

Not necessarily. We encourage GPs with different availability and relocation timeframes to register their interest so we can understand their circumstances and discuss potential opportunities as they develop.

Once the clinic operators have been announced, remuneration arrangements, including billing percentages, income guarantees, sign-on payments and relocation assistance, will be determined by each individual operator.
