Meet Dr Michael, a GP who embraces the freedom, flexibility, and fulfilment of the locum lifestyle.

Starting April this year, Dr Michael has taken on three rewarding placements through DXC Medical, rotating between two practices in the ruggedly beautiful Pilbara region of Western Australia: Karratha and South Hedland. With each placement spanning two to three weeks, Dr Michael has experienced the best of short-term work while making a meaningful impact in regional communities.

Work With a View: Life in the Pilbara

The Pilbara is one of Australia’s most striking and remote regions, known for its red earth landscapes, ancient gorges, and vast open skies.

Karratha offers a unique mix of natural beauty and urban convenience. Located near the stunning Dampier Archipelago, this coastal town provides locums with access to outdoor adventures like fishing, boating, and hiking, along with quality amenities, cafés, and community spirit. For those who enjoy exploring during downtime, the nearby Millstream-Chichester National Park and Karijini National Park offer unforgettable experiences.

South Hedland, part of the greater Port Hedland area, is a thriving hub driven by the resources industry and local Aboriginal culture. While working here, Dr Michael was able to contribute to a diverse patient population, supporting a strong community with unique healthcare needs. It’s a role that blends clinical impact with cultural insight, and it left a lasting impression on both him and the practice.

Consistent Work, Real Impact

In just a few months, Dr Michael has become a valued presence in the practices he’s supported. His commitment to quality patient care and collaborative spirit left a positive impression saying they’d welcome him back anytime, a true testament to the impact locums can make in a short time.

An Efficient, Well Coordinated Experience with DXC Medical

Behind the scenes, Dr Michael’s journey has been supported by Amy at DXC Medical, whose professionalism and dedication have ensured every detail runs smoothly.

“It’s been a great experience working with Amy and the DXC Medical team, highly professional and always focused on client satisfaction,” says Dr Michael.

From securing placements to prompt payment of competitive locum rates, the DXC Medical process stood out for its reliability and ease.

When asked what advice he’d give to other doctors thinking about taking the leap into locum work, Dr Michael was clear:

“Go through DXC, they are simply the best. In fact, they are second to none.”
